Nap Time and Sleep Obsession

It seems as parents we get totally obsessed with sleep.

Our sleep, their sleep, are they getting enough, are we getting enough, is it the 'right kind' of sleep?

My toddler still has afternoon naps and I dread the time when it will stop.

The joy of having a younger child who has two naps a day. I remember it well with nostalgia. One nap I napped with her, the other I did house work. How lovely.

Now I do house work unless we've had a particularly bad night or it is simply a miserable day and then, I admit, I have a sneaky nap too.

Yesterday we went to a soft play place in out local area to meet my best friend who lives out of town and her little boy. My little girl napped on the way home in the car and this really made me reflect on the type of sleep you like your children to have (both for their sake and yours.)

You see yesterday I felt I missed out on my nap time. I'd had plans. I was going to prepare the dinner and mop the kitchen floor. Half of the nap time quota was taken up driving home from the play date. The other half was a cross between chopping for three seconds then checking whether she had woken up.

We live on a secure farm so I am quite happy to leave her in the car if she is napping.

The other point is, she never seems to sleep as well in the car as she does in the bed-and never as long either. So I feel I was robbed of my nap time yesterday and guess what? We're going out again today.

I think as a parent I will always be obsessed with my child's sleep.

I just dread the time when it is reserved solely for night time...
